1/10/2012- Honoring Veterans at Santee Delta Duck Hunt

A steady northeast wind was key to keeping the cattails swaying, and the ducks flying, during the inaugural Santee Delta duck hunt for veterans. The Eagles Nest impoundment at Annandale Plantation welcomed 20 enthusiastic soldiers, and a small army of volunteers, on December 11 for a barbecue meal and fellowship before hunting on the following morning.

Dan Ray, owner of Annandale, became a catalyst for the Santee Delta military appreciation hunt when he combined his admiration for U.S. servicemen returning from war and his involvement in Ducks Unlimited. Annandale is one of several properties under conservation easement with DU’s non-profit organization, Wetlands America Trust, and Ray enlisted the Georgetown Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and his fellow plantation owners to sponsor and host this special duck hunt.

10/5/2011- Outdoors: Wounded Warriors treated to crossbow hunt for deer
A dozen crossbows lay in the shadow of a tree stand by the woodline. A dozen soldiers can't keep their gazes from returning to the risers and strings, scopes, stocks, limbs and triggers. The spread is enticing, a collection of products directly from TenPoint crossbow headquarters near Akron, Ohio. And for the next two days, these Wounded Warriors will stalk nearly 700 acres of private fields and woodlands, each with a hunting blind and a weapon that can push an arrow 300 feet in a second.

The event was made possible by Patriot Hunts, a group dedicated to providing outdoor experiences for Wounded Warriors.

Army Strong: The Strength of the Nation (AUSA 2011)

We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and pay our respects to all the men and women that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the name of Freedom on our behalf.

This Memorial Day there are thousands of families with an empty chair at the table where a loved one once occupied and now it sit's vacant and quiet. We should not wait for this day to come around to remember these brave soles, who stood out among their piers and made the choice to serve this country and defend its shores from those that may harm us.

We should in fact acknowledge this daily,as a constant reminder that Freedom, (ours) is paid for by the lives of others, and the families left behind..
