When Kyle Peacock contacted me about taking some soldiers duck hunting I was excited to say the least. We had been talking about trying to do some more waterfowling this coming year through Patriot Hunts. During our several converstaions by telephone I could tell Kyle was very excited and passionate about wanting to provide this hunt for these warriors. I already knew the caliber of person Kyle was just by the fact of his generous offer to help.

Our trip started at 3:15 a:m when we drug ourselves out of bed in anticipation of the days events to come. I picked up Bill and Dave, 2 of my hunters at 4:15 a:m, and headed to the Special Operations and Airborne Museum in downtown Fayetteville. We then met up with Eric, Rod, and Reg the last of my shooters and headed out. It was cold, dark and early, and no one had slept much the night before, but you wouldn’t know that by the laughter and buzz from my passengers, they were excited and almost giddy looking forward to the hunt. Little did I expect what was waiting for us when we arrived in the dark at Kyle’s home in Lake Waccamaw, North Carolina. There was hot coffee, a grill was going with the smell of fresh sausage in the air being provided by Cameron Byrd and  cooked by Mr. Jimmy Stanley, and warm smiles from all that greeted us. One by one local hunters and friends of Kyle started showing up and offering not only a friendly handshake, but their willingness to help. They all made it very clear they were there for these soldiers, and would do whatever it took to make sure all had a great time, and we did! Once they got all the hunters in place, it didn’t take long for the ducks to start coming in, and when they came, oh boy did they come. There were hundreds of ducks in the air at one time, so many they looked like bats swarming after  mosquitoes. The roar of shotguns filled the air, and seemed to continue all moring. You could hear laughter from all in the air, these guys were having a ball, and so was our host and all of our new friends. When we took a break and headed back to Kyle’s house, a big country breakfast was waiting for us, and man did it hit the spot. After getting our fill of great food, and sharing some stories, and all the ducks we missed of course, we headed back out to the impoundment Kyle had built on his property to try our luck for a late morning hunt. We had a few more opportunities later that morning, but the ducks seemed to have moved off, so we packed our gear and headed back to the house. After packing up all the gear and taking some photo’s to be shared, all the shooter’s were given a beautiful Buck Gardner Duck call from Keith Ransom as a gift. Let me just say if these men hadn’t pulled a trigger this day, it was a huge success regardless of of the game harvested this morning. I cannot convey how important thes events are for the well being of these soldiers and their morale. Kyle Peacock quotes: “I am absolutely honored to host a Patriot Hunts event on my property, and have these soldiers as my guest. I would encourage other landowners, hunting clubs and sportsmen to participate in such a great cause.”

Special thanks to: Kyle Peacock, Keith Ransom, Byron Tedder, Scott Taylor,Cameron Byrd,Jamie Pierce, & Mr. Jimmy Stanley for cooking some great food, and the fine fellowship they offered.

Thanks to Kyle and all our new friends at Lake Waccamaw for the wonderful hospitality, we look forward to seeing you all in the field again.

Patriot Hunts is dedicated to providing outdoor experiences for our Wounded Warriors, and Gold Star children of fallen heroes. With all of us sportsman and Patriots working together, we truly can make a difference in the life of a soldier who has chosen to lay his life at the altar of freedom on our behalf. These men and women have not only paid a physical and mental price, some have paid the ultimate price, for their fellow man. The cost of freedom is not measured in dollars, and it is paid for by patriots in our armed forces, by their courage, their commitment, and their willingness to stand in harms way for this country.

Stepping up and either volunteering or through your generous donations we can give back to the children of our fallen brothers, and help give them the guidance that their parent they have lost would have loved to be here to do. So it is with great pride and honor that we even have this opportunity and accept this challenge to reach out a helping hand.

The thought of a single Gold Star child being forgotten, and never having the opportunity to witness a sunrise from a duck blind, or hear a turkey gobble after flying down from the roost, or see a flock of geese fly over a deer stand while hunting, is just heartbreaking, so help us to make that dream come true for these deserving kids that have been devastated by lose, by donating.

Helping to empower Gold Star Children of fallen heroes through outdoor therapy.

By supporting this effort, your giving so many deserving kids an opportunity to experience things through hunting & fishing they may have never been given the chance to.

Take the time to help give back to those soldiers who have sacrificed so much.
