Cumberland Farms Waterfowl Hunt. What an event this turned out to be this past weekend! I had the pleasure of escorting 4 of our Special Operations soldiers as guest of Cumberland Farms on a awesome duck hunt, which also turned into a successful deer hunt. Thanks to Patriots like Nick Marinelli, Steve Marinelli, John Marinelli, Steve Diab, Jackson Diab, Eric lazzari, and “Boots” the farm cat. Nick contacted me about a month ago wishing to take some soldiers on this hunt, but little did I know it would turn out to be the best duck hunt I’ve ever seen.

We meet our host at 5:00 a:m and were greeted with hot coffee and big smiles, once they gave us the game plan, we all headed out in anticipation of sunrise and what it was to bring. After riding on quads to our destination, and carefully wading through waist deep water in the dark, we set up at our blinds. You could hear the ducks starting to fly into the impoundment we would be hunting. Once sunrise and legal shooting time broke, it was on! The sky slowly started filling with the sounds of ducks chattering and diving in and out of the flooded corn. We were all just laughing like kids at that point. the first shots rang out at first light, and ther first of many ducks fell. After some nervous misses the guys started to settle in and get comfortable with their surroundings and really started laying into the ducks. One after the other started to fall from the sky, so much so we had to stop and do a head count on how many were downed to make sure we stayed within our limits. Once we counted up our harvest, we were back at it again. Shots rang out one after the other and then more and more ducks kept coming in, it was a awesome sight tom see and hear. Absolutely beautiful sunrise that day, the air filled with gunfire and the sounds of laughter hovered accross the water. Our host this day could not do enough for these soldiers, they wanted it to be a perfect hunt, which is was. I say to everyone involved or thinking about being involved in something like this, it is never about pulling the trigger when we go out, it is about the friendships we forge, the stories we share, and the memoires we make. And that is exactly what we did this day, we made friends with fellow Patriots, and outdoorsmen ans shared time in the field, so in my book it was a total success! After the hunt we gathered around the outdoor fireplace and talked of our misses and og course the unbeleivable shots we all made, right? We were treated to an awesome breakfast at the lodge, but this was not enough for John Marinelli, he wanted to do more for these soldiers, so he devised a deer drive and put these guys in some elevated stands while we stalked through the woods hollering and making nlise to spook some deer their way. I don’t know if we contributed or not, but within an hour we head multiple shots ring out. A phone call to MSG. A.J. Kibby ended the suspense, he and Mark Bickel had shot 2 deer, one was a nice buck! John and I high fived and could not believe this just happened, John had just said ti me man wouldn’t it be great if these guys to get a deer after such a great duck hunt? After skinning out the deer and cleaning up the mess it was time to say good-bye to some really great people. They had so much fun our host are already planning another event for January 2012. I cannot express how grateful I am to this group of sportsmen for their generousity, and love for our military. We made some great friends this day that will continue on for a ling time. After presenting them all with Patriot coins, and a plaque for the lodge expressing our heartfelt gratitude we had to go. Special thanks to a great young man, Jackson who not only helped guide for the soldiers, but also cleaned all the ducks for these guys. Thank you all at Cumberland Farms for your hearfelt generousity!

Patriot Hunts is dedicated to providing outdoor experiences for our Wounded Warriors, and Gold Star children of fallen heroes. With all of us sportsman and Patriots working together, we truly can make a difference in the life of a soldier who has chosen to lay his life at the altar of freedom on our behalf. These men and women have not only paid a physical and mental price, some have paid the ultimate price, for their fellow man. The cost of freedom is not measured in dollars, and it is paid for by patriots in our armed forces, by their courage, their commitment, and their willingness to stand in harms way for this country.

Stepping up and either volunteering or through your generous donations we can give back to the children of our fallen brothers, and help give them the guidance that their parent they have lost would have loved to be here to do. So it is with great pride and honor that we even have this opportunity and accept this challenge to reach out a helping hand.

The thought of a single Gold Star child being forgotten, and never having the opportunity to witness a sunrise from a duck blind, or hear a turkey gobble after flying down from the roost, or see a flock of geese fly over a deer stand while hunting, is just heartbreaking, so help us to make that dream come true for these deserving kids that have been devastated by lose, by donating.

Helping to empower Gold Star Children of fallen heroes through outdoor therapy.

By supporting this effort, your giving so many deserving kids an opportunity to experience things through hunting & fishing they may have never been given the chance to.

Take the time to help give back to those soldiers who have sacrificed so much.
